Educational Psychologist/ Consultant and Social Entrepreneur
Funmi Ilori, an educational psychologist/consultant and social entrepreneur is the founder of iRead Network Africa, the first innovative and fully integrated 'books on wheels' for children in Nigeria, bridging literacy gaps and enhancing education for the African child. iRead is a flagship service of Funmivirtuous Educational Consult Limited, an organisation that is empowering, inspiring and building capacity for teachers towards national development. With Urban and Regional Planning as a first degree, Post Graduate Diploma in Education and Masters degree in Educational Pychology, Funmi is passionate about the environment and represents this as a green ambassador for United Nations Carbon Credit Network, an organisation that provides solar energy and clean cook stoves to preserve the lives of women, children and families. Funmi is a 2015 Mandela Washington Fellow, an initiative of President Barrack Obama for Young African Leaders. Growing up seeing the damaging and value-eroding educational system in Nigeria, Funmi understood that - in order to improve the quality of education, a whole new approach to learning process was necessary and this birthed her dream to build the largest library in Africa; creating direct jobs in the education industry, making positive contribution to the shaping of educational practices in Africa while closing the gaps in youth literacy by providing access to materials that enhance basic reading and writing skills among women and children. She is currently partnering with international and local organisations working to enhance literacy in Africa and also with United Nation's Carbon Credit Network to lead countless children to 'go green' by empowering them with practical knowledge of climate change, renewable energy and how they can save the planet.
Funmi Ilori is a visionary who bears the long term dream of building the largest children library in Africa on wheels. Funmi Ilori is passionate about growing a reading generation of exemplary leaders. She is a risk taker willing to be the first in the industry and see it grow. She does not mind to take on the role of her driver, driving her 2.0 tons truck just to get the work done. Her leadership skills inspire her team members to achieve more by going the extra mile. She understands that success is a team effort so she leverages on a pool of ideas by listening to her mentors and mentees.
